4th Dec – Museums, Pylon and another 21500 steps!
We awoke to find the weather had turned on us, it was cold
and windy! We hit the bus stop and boarded the express to Sydney Central, the
new Double Decker busses are great, and they have been in operation for only 10
days. Once we disembarked we headed down to Darling Harbour and the Maritime Museum,
here we spent 2 hours looking at the Maritime History of Sydney and Australia.
12.30pm and it was lunch, with so much rain we headed for the Harbour side
Shopping Centre for and an umbrella then off to the Powerhouse Museum to check out
what they had to offer! One thing we did notice was the absence of the Skyrail.
We found out that approximately two years ago they sold it to the Goldcoast to
be used as transport from Broardbeach to the Casino of all places! With the
rain easing during the afternoon we were able to make it across to the Pylon Museum
via Chinatown..........the smells were incredible! With a fantastic view from
the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge Pylon, we even saw one of the cruise ships
leaving the harbour via the bridge. We are seriously thinking maybe a cruise
trip for our 20th wedding anniversary could be on the cards! The Pylon
Museum displayed all the construction details during the bridge build. We were surprised
that only 16 people lost their lives considering the lack of safety equipment available
back in the day.
