10th Dec – Surf Club and fishing

We were all up early and Chris was out washing blasted baked locust off the front of the Prado from back in Kalgoorlie, after breakfast we headed off for Newcastle, Dixon Surf Club, it was one of the smaller clubs on this 3km stretch of beach but the boys had a blast. With a nice swell, there were some real waves to enjoy, Aiden only had 5 in his group and Riley had 10 and this included the u14s so there wasn’t the pressure of the bigger clubs.  We met up with some of Kirstie’s family for lunch and then via the Newcastle 500 race track we then headed back to go ... you guessed it ... fishing in the boat! The boys super excited we headed out and tried our luck with bait this time. A few sections of the lake down (Kirstie and Mike are just amazing and how well they know this enormous area), we ended up heading back to a popular spot for a shot at squiding. We were in luck, 9 down after only 3 runs and we were happy. Aiden reminded us we had caught 10 sea creatures all together as earlier we checked the crab pots and we had one huge 18 cm beast. This is huge for Lake Macquarie. With everyone happy we made a quick stop on an island on the way back to the jetty we finished with some brag photos of our catch! Yet another fantastic day on the lake thanks to Mike and Kirstie. On a side note discovered today the fridge in the camper is not working!! Yikes time to do a process of elimination to see what could be the issue.
