16th Dec – Big Day Out in Yamba

Yamba is a cute little costal town north of Brooms Head (20min) which is a holiday Mecca on the northern NSW coast. Just before we hooked onto the Pacific Hwy on the way Riley noticed Flyingfox  hanging in the tree at the intersection, we pulled over to take a better look, it was then we noticed hundreds and hundreds of the little buggers upside down in the surrounding trees. The sound and smell was something else! Upon our arrival into town we headed straight to the beaches to check out the surf, Turner’s Beach had some nice waves, it had a big break out the back (according to the lifesaving board it was only a 1m swell!) A couple of hours later we headed to the supermarket to pick up some groceries and something to chuck on the local BBQ for lunch, the park overlooked the ocean and was great! After refuelling and a flick of the Frisbee we heading back to the Main Beach we enjoyed a quick dip in the Ocean Pool and a body surf in the adjacent beach break. We had a quick shower at the beach and headed to the southern headland for a walk at Yamba Head, checking out the little crabs on the beach finishing another busy day taking in the sites Yamba had to offer. Once we arrived back to camp we found the wind wasn’t as ferocious as the previous day. We grabbed the bikes and went to the headland and rock pool where we met a lovely family from Coolangatta, we even got to see a little stingray in the shallows! Riley is doing a great job with his diary and Aiden is, in his eyes finding it a burden at the end of the day. Will have to see what we can do to help him get back on track.
