2nd Dec – Manly & Surf Club!
We were certainly in denial re the rain! We had seen it so
many times before in the forecast... it was going to rain but didn’t, although
today it proved us wrong. We started the day cloudy and thought it might be OK
for a surf, but the surf was still just a bit too big for us. So after breakfast we hit the road south following
the coast to Manly from our campsite at North Narrabeen. We popped into a
number of bays along the way including Dee Wy and little Manley bay, which was
picture perfect. The beaches were all closed and all the Surf Lifesavers had
nothing better to do than just dig holes and play cricket. However this didn’t
keep the mad surfers from going in and they where loving it, at one point we
counted 30 in the water on Narrabeen beach alone.
We then headed to the Sydney
Harbour National park which has an old Army Barracks, Riley talks all about our
walk in his bog. We continued heading south and came to this tucked away bay
called ‘Little Manly’. It was so cute, perfect conditions and a great
opportunity for the boys to paddle around on the boards. It was also a great opportunity
for us to observe and walk along the rocky outcrop, yes keeping the boys in
sight. After an hour we noticed it was heading towards 2pm so we started to
head back to Narrabeen as we had lined up the boys to join in on a nippers
carnival session at the local surf club. When we arrived there was no-one
there, so we checked the email details when some guy yells out from the top
balcony ‘Are you here for nippers? ... It’s been cancelled’. Long story short,
as you know when it’s going to rain you head straight to the bar and make some
new friends, we had a lovely afternoon. It was here we found out their club is
around the same size as Scarborough. It was a great way to spend the afternoon,
full of great conversation and fabulous people, everyone was so friendly! In
particular one of the parents we met was a single Dad doing it tough......... tell
you what, life is bloody good!!!
