20th Dec – Byron Bay & Surf School
Today Riles got up at 5am and hit the beach for a run at
sunrise, he completed 5km and then in boy fashion he hit the LCD screen in the
camp kitchen! We all arose at around 7am only to find the wind was forecast to
hit 20knots!, so we did some washing and then off to Byron Bay it was. Byron is
only 25minutes from Lennox but it is a world away, all parking is $4per hour
and the town is buzzing!!!, we hit the end of the beach of the main drag to
checkout the beach where we found a huge school of bait fish closely tailed by
a school of what looked like Taylor. Even then the wind was ripping across the
beach and thru town, we decided to head for the Lighthouse and checkout
Australia’s most eastern point, man was it windy, it was hitting 35 knots and
at the top of the Lighthouse and almost blew us all off over the railing! Bell
managed to sight a pod of dolphins at the base of the lighthouse and get some
great photographs; we headed to the car and into town to get some lunch before hitting
Cosy Corner on Tallows Beach where again there was a huge pod of dolphins and
some great waves. The wind was just as strong on the beach, so strong the boys
almost didn’t make it with the boards, at one point the boards were horizontal
behind them! After 2 hours we headed back to the car, only just beating the
parking inspector, pretty cool guy actually, with the world’s worst job, he was
pretty good giving everyone a bit of grace to get back to their cars...... with
the wind and all. On our return from Byron it was back to the beach for our
final surf lesson and again we had a blast, Terry is so good he makes everyone
have a great time and once again the waver were there, we managed some great
photos and videos, the boys were even surfing standing backwards......it was
pretty cool and even Terry and Chriso ( instructors) were stoked to see the
boys progress! Once it was all over we headed back to the camper for dinner and
getting ready for WET N WILD the following day!
