19th Dec - Flying and Surfing
We headed out early into town to the IGA for some shopping,
also to eye up somewhere to eat out for later in the week. Lennox heads is a cute
little town with lots of trendy little places to eat and drink. To make sure we
tested out all the beaches we hit the main 7 Mile beach even though it was already
blown out, the waves were like a washing machine (but we are used to that in
Perth with the sea breeze) so we had a little body surf. Unfortunately with the
North Easters the main beaches aren’t offering surf waves. After about 2 hours
we headed to Lake Ainsworth for a rinse off in the fresh water........ right next
to the caravan park and the beach, the eerie dark water colour had the boys staying away from
the bottom in the deeper places.... especially when we started talking about
fresh water crocodiles!. The water colour
made your hands look red when you put them under the water. Once we had rinsed
off we walked back to the camper for some lunch, after a refuel we decided to
head out and check out the place a little more, we stopped a short distance up
the road at a lookout on the southern end of the beach to check out the hang
gliders. As you see from the kids stories, we started talking to the
instructors and in the end Mum decided to give it a go, it was too good an
opportunity to pass up! The views were breath taking. There were dolphins,
schools of fish and the beautiful coastline to take in and nowhere near as
scary as first thought. It was a super cool experience and even the boys
enjoyed watching, especially when the eagle was tail gating mum ..... checkout
the photos. So after mum was finished we headed off to our planned afternoon
experience...........surf school! It was so much fun, we even managed to get in
some family runs, all surfing on the same wave together, it was a blast. Even
though the waves were small we had large boards which enabled us to get in some
great long waves. Where we were surfing was the only place to be when the surf
was blown out and you were hanging out for a wave! Thanks Terry and KOOL KATS
SURF SCHOOL!
