5th Jan - One Mile Beach and Forster
Following a late night watching Terminator 2 (the boys loved
it) we decided to have a little lie in ‘till 8am. With no real surf available we
decided to go exploring the beaches down the coast, starting from Black Head
just’ round the corner thru to Bennetts Head lookout. It was here we found the
magpies drinking vehicle air-conditioning water which had dripped onto the car park.
The boys found a plastic tray in the car and filled it with water, the birds
all had a drink from it, we realised this area is much dryer and less humid
than just a little way up the coast. Seeing some potential in the little waves
from the lookout at 1 Mile Beach, we parked up and headed in for splash. We
just love watching the boys on the waves, Riley certainly made the most surfing
across the wave on Chris’ board, left and right hander’s aren’t a problem for
him. Following yesterdays awesome display by the dolphins we thought we would
head to the adjacent beach to see if we could get a closer look, unfortunately
today there were none to be seen. On the Tuncurry side (where the Wallis Lake meets
the Pacific Ocean) we had a BBQ for dinner then headed for an evening walk
along the lake. Riley decided he really wanted to go on a ride at the carnival
ground, so as the one and only rider he went on the ‘Freak Out’ and loved it of
course, whilst Aiden was not interested and happy to just have an ice cream (of
course it had to be food!). Back to the car we headed across the bridge to the
other side “Forster’ and watched the sun set over the lake as we walked along
the southern groin, in all a pretty good day.
