18th Jan – Tuross and beyond
After another cold night we awoke to a crystal clear morning
, the sun was shining but unfortunately same conditions were prevalent all
along the coast, with the massive swell but at least today the southerly had
died down and almost disappeared. So we decided to initiate “Plan B”, we drove
south to Tuross Head and hired a little tinny for 2 hours. We tried our luck
for an hour fishing but nothing was biting our lines in particular....so we let
the boys pilot our vessel for the remainder of the time we had hired the boat. One
thing we learnt from this experience is that we can’t let Aiden get his licence...
ever! Our little man is still testing the boundaries after all this time, who
were we kidding that was going to change! As we docked our vessel at the end of
the hire period the wind on the lake started to pick up dramatically, so we headed
to the lookout over the bay for a spot of lunch after our cruise on Lake Tuross. Leaving,
we drove past a sign that gave us another educational opportunity to teach the
boys about music!
We headed to the Eurobodalla National park for a short hike,
Chris put in what he thought was the destination into the GPS, and we ended up
travelling an extra 20kms on dirt roads! Since we were all a bit worn out from
the bumpy track we made a B line for Normarra and hit the first bay we could
find. Luck would have it the place was fantastic, Dalmeny Bay had a river
entrance on the sheltered side with luke warm water and a gentle current which
took you out to the surf. Refreshed we continued with Plan ‘A’ a 5km walk from
Mystery Bay to 1080 Beach. Unfortunately the tide was high so we took the road /
track and visited both the beaches to see what all the fuss was about. We
managed to see our first Wallaby on the beach; he was eating the small bulbs in
the seaweed, who would have known! Next we climbed the rocks on the beach which
stretched way out behind the break, the force of the waves was huge and we all
ohh’d and arr’d firework style at the force of nature that day, we left the breath
taking views for our 70km drive home. All
in all a great day!
