23rd Jan - Adelaide and The Foos

The Morning started with us dropping the car in for a service then catching the bus into the city centre to have a look around. We roamed the Randal Mall shopping area, checked out the delights of the Central Markets and admired the many churches scattered in amongst the modern buildings within the city centre. After a stop for lunch we headed back to pick up the car before returning to the camp to relax and catching up on paperwork before the evening concert, the boys even managed to played on the outdoor chess set under the sprinklers!
Now for the Foo Fighters........At 5pm we were all showered and dressed ready to hit the concert, we parked at the Entertainment Centre and headed to the Indian Restaurant just around the corner from the Coopers Stadium, dinner was great and the boys were stuffed by the time we had left! We arrived at the stadium and picked up some merchandise just outside the gate, unfortunately they had run out of hats (for Aiden) so we headed inside to the second stall where we managed to get him one of the last few on sale ...phew! We checked out our seats in the grandstand, they were awesome! Right at the front on the edge of the standing area, elevated with no-one in front to interrupt our view of the event! Weezer were playing and they were pretty good live, the crowd had already grown almost to capacity with the main event only an hour away. The concert had been pulled forward by 1/2hr to 8pm which suited us fine! Dave Grohl hit the stage by himself playing solo with the band following right behind..... it was pretty cool, they played 3 songs straight up without a breath and then they slowed to say ‘hi’ to all of us and explain how the evenings event would pan out. “Now this wasn’t gonna be normal f#ckin concert” he proclaimed, “there’s gonna be something for new and old die hard Foo Fighters fans out there, we aint gonna play for 1 hour, were not even gonna play for 2 hours, I hope you’ve got your comfortable shoes on ‘cause were going hard!”........... and boy he wasn’t wrong, 3 hours later we were all ragged and they were done!  We still don’t know how he does it, without either busting an artery or losing his voice! The sound was incredible, the band was amazing, the concert sounded like the album but on steroids and at 1000% louder than you could imagine, at one point the drums lifted 7 meters above the stage on a platform, and during the performance Dave even jumped on the drums just to let us know he still has what it takes! The boys were stunned, this was their first BIG concert and they were overwhelmed not knowing where to look at some points, around ½ way Dave had all the lights off and asked everyone to light their phones reminiscent of the old lighter days, it looked fantastic with the entire stadium lit up, then he cranked out another tune. Just when you thought it was finished they lit the fuse again and played another set of tracks, it was pretty cool! At 1030 they left the stage but the crowd refused to leave, suddenly there was a video feed from backstage, Dave was looking at the camera when he put up 1 finger intimating another song, the crowd went nuts, then behind him Taylor the drummer puts up 2 fingers and the crowd went mental, so Dave puts up a total of 3 and then we all agree he would play another 5 songs...... back out on stage he came alone where he told a story about a mine collapse in Tasmania, when the rescue team managed to drill a supply hole to them they asked the miners what they needed to hold them over during the rescue, they requested just two items, 1 - Water and 2 – Foo Fighters music on an ipod! He then played The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miner followed by My Hero, then suddenly the remainder of the band appeared and the final songs, the very last being what everyone was waiting for “EVERLONG” which bought the house down, by then 3 hours had passed and the band bid their goodbyes and slowly left the stage promising to come back in the future!..........we will be there and we can’t wait !!!!!!!
