3rd Jan - Sunshine & Bingo

Today we woke and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Aiden had a tough morning completing his responsibilities, his friends Will and Ella kept coming back to the camp to see if he was ready to play. Riley managed to hang out alone with them for the morning and take a swim in the spa, while Bell enjoyed hand feeding the Kookaburra and her babies, she had 2 juveniles she was still feeding. The mother would gently take some mince then feed it to her babies. She was so gorgeous, you could see how she was cautious, but also trusting at the same time.

With the wind coming in early the surf was blown out, so we headed to Red Rock with some friends from the park (Greg, Jules, Ella and Will) to float in the estuary where the river meets the sea. The tide was high (about 1m) and covered all the sandbars in the estuary, the kids broke out the boards and hit the water, the temp was lovely and there were loads of people enjoying the water. As the day progressed we cooked lunch on the BBQ and noticed the tide was changing, so quickly you could see all the sandbanks in the bay emerging, the boys decided to go Yabby catching for fun. With the tide dropping fast it created a floating ride down to towards the sea. Our friends headed back so we stayed to take advantage of the ride (Chris with beer in tow) and floated from the river towards the sea. It was a little daunting when we got closer to the sea with the water speed increase and the current swirling around before we hit little beach. We decided to have a look around little beach and the rocks, this is where Chris found a sea snake in the water, he was trying to get back to the largest rock outcrop along the shoreline. After lots of research we could not find out what type of snake, maybe you know?

With it being our last night at Woolgoolga, what better way to finish off our stay than to head out for dinner and bingo with Bill’s and Greg’s families. This was the boys first time playing Bingo, Crystal took the first win closely followed by Riley and then Bell, all winning a $10 vouchers at the club. The winners decided to splash out on desert.... ice-cream all round for the kids and Bell! In all it was a fun filled and entertaining night.

26th Jan – Australia Day!

Following an early night we were up by 5am, and pulled onto the road to Kalgoorlie by 530 heading west, the temp was 19 degrees and the sun was behind us which was a nice change compared to yesterday afternoon, we had 420km to travel to our final campsite at Boulder...... which has a pool! Arriving 11am we quickly set up and made our way to Hannan’s North Tourist Mine which used to be an original working mine. By now it was 35 degrees and getting hotter by the minute while checking out the mine trucks, old original buildings, gold pouring and first aid room. At the end of the tour we even did some gold panning, the boys each found a little fleck of gold. While panning the water it attracted 3 huge wasps collecting water (see photo). After an hour in the sun we were melting and hungry (now 12.45pm), so we went through Chicken Treat drive through for lunch. 1st Dec – Batemans Bay to Manley

Today we were up early and packed ready for the trip up the coast, along the way we had scheduled to stop in and visit the HARS Aviation Museum at Wollongong. Here there were aircraft from each era of aviation, military and civilian from F1-11 & Sabres thru to 747-400 it was an amazing display and the guided tour lasted for 3hrs, this is a must for all Aircraft enthusiasts young and old. Following a spot of lunch at the museum café we headed on for North Narrabeen, up the coast and thru Sydney at peak hour.....it was great! The trip was 107km, took 2hrs 15 minutes and we were stationary for 39 minutes! All in all not bad for crossing a major capital city at peak hour on a Friday afternoon! Once we arrived we got setup and hit the beach to check out the place, including the local surf pool across the road on the beachfront. 18th Dec – Spider, Lennox Heads, Surfing!

Back from our regular morning run/walk on the beach we had started our ritual “pack up” when Riley found a hitchhiker inside our car, a huge wolf spider had made house over night thinking this might be a great place to start a new life away from the elements! Thank goodness he was found before we set off. Excitement aside we said goodbye to a lovely local family who were our neighbours for the past 3 days, even had a son called Aiden. So Lennox here we come, with a quick stop at Ballina Bunnings on the way (including the Huge Prawn next door) Riley said he read it cost $400,000 to refurbish!, we arrived at our caravan site, and boy was it hot! The boys did there bits and disappeared to the camp kitchen to indulge in that massive thing called a LCD TV, whilst we finished setting up.
