16th to 17th Broulee & the surrounding

Following a little stop in to Broulee on the way up the coast in late November last year we decided to stay in the caravan park right behind the beach at Broulee surf club. We were up early to packed up and spent some time over breakfast with Mike n Kirstie with her great parents Pete n Hettie, we were on the road by 9am whereby our trip took us 4 hours with a stop to stock-up on some food and a bite of lunch at “The Gong”. The caravan park is well up there as one of the best locations, layout and facilities.. Our first night in was cold, first evening of its kind for the trip so far, we had a quick look at the beach and the swell was huge so we just went for a little walk and took in the awesome force the ocean had to offer whilst the boys bounced themselves silly on the bouncy pillow.

The next morning found us indulging in pancakes that the caravan park put on for free, their way of saying thanks to all the patrons staying with them over the Christmas and New Year period, I think Riley had 5 and Aiden lost count! Out the front again the swell was huge (the locals said it’s been like this for 4 days due to a southerly) we headed to Mossy Point (10min) to see the swell on the rocky headland, the photos just don’t do it justice. Back at camp we then jumped on the bikes and headed for a 14km bike ride to Moryua (south of Broulee). Wow, again amazing swell and force, as the waves crashed on the break wall were hard to comprehend. With no surf on the agenda we decided to drive around to the opposite side of the river inlet of Moryua. It took us on a long drive we could have never done on the bikes, but it led us to a great little beach to explore and have a swim without the swell. The traditional evening walk showcased the awesome force of the ocean, there wasn’t a surfer in sight! We’re certainly going to miss the beach when we head inland.
